NHS Community teams tend to use either paper diaries or their Patient Administration System (PAS) to allocate and book patient appointments. However, NHS Community PAS systems are not designed to assist with scheduling and fail to provide intelligence around optimising patient appointment allocation. This means when Senior Nurses use their PAS to book appointments they find the booking process convoluted resulting in it often taking up to four hours a day to only book around 100 appointments. Also, as the process is a manual one, it relies on the nurses experience and intuition resulting in inefficient schedules and likelihood for human error.
The Malinko Intelligent Scheduling System (MISS) automates the patient appointment allocation (scheduling) process, presenting a ready-made optimised schedule for Senior Nurses to amend and approve. Easy-to-use with a drag and drop interface, working with our NHS partners we have proven that by using the MISS system instead of the NHS Community PAS, Senior Nurses can schedule and book over 100 appointments in just 20 minutes adding up to saving hundreds of hours in just a few weeks.
The timing of community appointments is often fuzzy - if visits overrun it can have an impact on subsequent appointments. NHS Community Services PAS systems don't have the capability to automatically let patients know what time the appointment will take place. This results in high levels of Did Not Attends (DNA). From our research with NHS Trusts, up to 10 visits out of 100 could result in a DNA due to the patient not being at home when the nurse arrives meaning there is a huge amount of unrealised capacity within current teams.
MISS has an integrated and automated appointment reminder capability, which informs patients when the nurse is en-route to their home. These reminders can be configured to suit the needs of each particular patient and across the service as a whole.
NHS Community PAS systems are unable to track Community Nurses locations and there is no way for the Nurse to covertly contact the office in the event of an unsafe situation.
The MISS has a built in Nurse tracking locator board so you know when Nurses have arrived at and completed home visits. At any time you can see live their last known location. Also, incorporated within the MISS mobile app there is a silent lone worker alarm button which the Nurse can discreetly use to alert the office if they are in jeopardy.
